Homemade Pancake Syrup
Difficulty Level: Medium
Equipment: Whisk, small saucepan, measuring cup, measuring spoons.
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups brown sugar (packed in cup)
3/4 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
Dash of salt
3/4 teaspoon maple flavoring
Mix the brown sugar, water, butter, and salt in saucepan. Heat to boiling point over medium heat, stirring constantly with the whisk. Remove immediately from heat if it starts to boil over. Stir in the maple flavoring. Serve warm over pancakes, waffles, or toast.
CAUTION:
The hard part about this recipe is making sure that the
syrup doesn't boil over. So be careful: that's where mom or
dad can help. And don't touch or taste the syrup while it
cooks: it's very, very hot and will burn you! Wait until
it's done cooking and cools before tasting. Always use a
potholder when you cook to keep your hands from
burning.
