Passover

Seder

Passover commemorates the Exodus of the Jews from their slavery in Egypt. Family and friends gather around the table for a symbolic dinner, a Seder, to recall the history of their people's escape to freedom. Only unleavened products may be used during this eight-day holiday. Matzo is used instead of bread, matzo meal and potato flour are substituted for regular flour (note the use of Passover meal in this brownie recipe), and only eggs are used for leavening. The Seder dinner is served after the family has read the Haggadah, a narrative of the Exodus which contains the Seder ritual. Children present are also told about the history of the holiday.
